Still no news

Many people have been asking if we have any sort of update to share. I am sorry to say we do not. There's still no real concrete idea of when adoptions will start moving again. All we really know is that there are many people, in Liberia, working very hard to try to get the new laws passed. The children are being advocated for. In the meantime, we believe our son is being well cared for by his foster family. We are sure they love him and are treating him as their own. We also believe that the other kids are in good hands with the AoH nannies. It's no substitute for a mommy and a daddy, but they are doing their best. We're praying that adoptions open up soon and all the kids will come home to their families.

I will keep you all informed if there are any updates to be shared. Wish I had better news. Please keep praying for us. Thank you all for your love and support.

1 year

We received our referral of Jonah one year ago today. It's been a hard year, but we trust that God has a plan. We will have our son home one day. Thank you God for the opportunity to become Jonah's parents. We love you Jonah, with all of our hearts.
Make sure you pause the music, on the right side of the page, before you hit play.

It's been a while.

I have really been neglecting the blog lately. I'm sorry about that. I wish we had news worth sharing, but we do not. To be honest, the thought of updating the blog is somewhat depressing. There still is no end in sight for this adoption. We still have no idea when we will be able to bring Jonah home.

Please pray for us. It's been a hard couple of months. We are tired and worn out, emotionally and physically. The stress of waiting and not knowing is really wearing us down. Please pray that the Liberian government will make progress on the adoption bill and lift the moratorium for those of us with children waiting. We know they only what the best for these kids.

Thank you all very much for your continued support.

New Pictures for our Anniversary!

Today we celebrate 10 years of marriage! Bryan said at the beginning of the week that we would get new pictures of Jonah on our anniversary. He was right! Here is our handsome and happy little boy...

We are told he is a happy baby and doing great! We can't wait to hold him and kiss his little cheeks. He looks a lot more healthy, you can really see that he has gained weight. We love you little boy and can't wait to meet you!!

An update

Where do I start?

We need prayer. The President of Liberia has suspended all adoptions. Here is a quote from her state of the union address.

"The gross mismanagement of the adoption program (which aims primarily at placing orphans in homes in the United States), by both Liberian and U.S. personnel in the concerned NGO is the subject of a report by a Special Committee which I appointed for this purpose. Essentially, we have discovered that many of the children in these orphanages are not in fact orphans but children taken from their living parents on the promise of support and a good life in America. Moreover, we found that young children were being sexually abused at some of these orphanages, while others including officials of government, have used the program to extort money from potential adoptors. We have thus suspended the adoption program until laws, policies and proper guidelines have been established and we have asked our concerned friends and partners in the United States to be patient as we try to correct the serious malpractices which exist. We expect the National Social Welfare Policy and National Adoption Act which will be submitted to you during the course of the year, will provide guidance and prevent such abuses in the future."

We do not yet know what this will mean for our adoption. We don't know how long it will be until we can bring Jonah home. We hope that the Liberian government will allow adoptions already in process to continue to move forward, but this is not guaranteed. We have thrown out any time line we thought looked reasonable and now just hope to bring Jonah home at all.

All of your prayers are greatly appreciated. We will let you know when we hear more information.
